And so it Began...

"Welcome every morning with a smile. Look on the new day as another special gift from your Creator, another golden opportunity to complete what you were unable to finish yesterday. Be a self-starter. Let your first hour set the theme of success and positive action that is certain to echo through your entire day. Today will never happen again. Don't waste it with a false start or no start at all. You were not born to fail.” -Oq Mandino

This past week I woke up every morning at 5:30, but it wasn't from my dorm at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, or even my queen-size bed in San Antonio that I love so much, rather it was from my cousins room in DeSoto, a town not far from the Dallas metroplex I would learn to call my home everyday from 8 to 5, usually. This was my opportunity, this was my new way of life, this was my internship.

Being an early graduate, and being blessed to have done some great internships so far, my favorite being my experience working with the Media Services for the San Antonio Spurs, I wanted to branch out outside my comfort zone of the Greater San Antonio area but venture into other places . . . this other place soon became Dallas.

In the metroplex of Dallas at the intersection of Pearl St. and San Jacinto on the 20th floor of the very popular Plaza of the Americas complex, I would soon find myself an external affairs intern for one of the most benefiting non-profit organizations I have known for several years called "Buckner International." This is where I would complete my internship study program and become a better person than hopefully when I came.

In this 12-week program, I hope to learn what it means to work in external affairs for a non-profit ogranization and how this organization functions globally. During this program, the expertise and knowledge I plan to gain will be an improvement to me whether in my writing skills, media relations skills, and development in areas such as journalism, public relations, and marketing.

This experience will fit in my overall career plan as it will teach me skills for working for a real corporation, as it will teach me lessons that a textbook never could, and it will help me to grow and develop into the communications professional I plan to be one day.

IN THIS BLOG, THROUGH A COMBINATION OF PICTURES, VIDEOS, STORIES AND MORE I PLAN TO GIVE DAILY RECOLLECTIONS OF MY ACTIVITES AT WORK AND REFLECTIONS OF HOW IT IS TO TRANSITION FROM COLLEGE LIFE TO CORPORATE AMERICA . . . . . . . . . . . . . STAY TUNED
